Do I Need to See the Company Doctor?

You Can Choose Your Own Doctor

When you are injured at work, your employer cannot force you to go to the “company doctor” for treatment. Sometimes you may feel pressured that you need to see the doctor that your employer tells you to.  However, an employer does have the right to require a drug test following a work-related injury. Sound confusing? It should. This is just one of the many things a workers’ compensation attorney has to navigate in workers’ compensation cases. For example: An employer also has the right to schedule an independent medical examination (IME). Though, the employer must comply with Minnesota law in doing so. They must provide adequate notice prior to the scheduled IME. They also must pay your travel expenses. There are many limitations regarding the exam itself that you will only know about if you have an attorney to advise you. If your employer has scheduled you for an IME, it is advisable for you to seek a workers’ compensation attorney immediately.
